Drawing inspiration from South Florida’s rich history and cast of characters, Tangled Roots by Matt Stabile is a fantasy adventure filled with magic and mystery that centers on the question: How much of our Past we are willing to surrender in order to accommodate our Future?

Description:

Ben's luck seems to have finally turned when he discovers he is the rightful heir to a developer’s dream stretch of coastal property on Florida’s magnificent shoreline.  The only thing standing in his way is the centerpiece of the property: a section of protected mangroves.

After a chance meeting with the mysterious and beautiful Perla he follows her into the trees and finds himself lost in a magical world of prophecies and secrets, all hidden deep within.  A change is coming to this world and, if Ben can’t make it out in time, he may find himself swept away with the coming storm.

After a chance meeting with the mysterious and beautiful Perla, John brings her to the shoreline to show off his newfound treasure.  When she disappears into the trees, he follows and finds himself lost in a magical world of prophecies and secrets, all hidden deep within.  A change is coming to this world and, if John can’t make it out in time, he may find himself swept away with the coming storm.

IN PROCESS:

In June 2018 Mangrove hosted the first studio workshop of Tangled Roots. 27 artists spanning 71 miles of South Florida came together to explore the piece.

As part of his commitment to letting the audience have a sneak behind the curtain before opening night Matt has chosen to share with readers some historical information uncovered. Additionally, a few photos of mangroves and historical people that make appearances in his play are below. Matt keeps these with him during his writing process and  shares them here to spark your imagination about the fantasy adventure world that he is creating.
